Mailanderli

1 pound unsweetened butter, softened
1 cup sugar
6 egg yolks
1 tablespoon vanilla
5 cups all-purpose flour
zest of 2 lemons
1 egg

Preheat oven to 325F. Cream together butter and sugar. Add egg yolks, vanilla, and lemon zest and mix well. Gradually add flour while stirring. Chill. Roll out 1/4" thick and cut in shapes desired. Beat remaining egg, brush each cookie with beaten egg. Place on parchment-lined baking sheet and bake for 24 minutes or until lightly golden.

Would make this again.
I'm 13 years old and remember making these with my grandmother. She knew the recipie by heart, but then she got alsheimers and I have missed the smell of her baking whenever we go to my grandparents house. I can't wait to try this recipie out! five stars

I lived in Switzerland for three years in the 1960's and made these from then on, but I lost the recipe for them and also Brunsli (YUM) and Anisbrotli(double YUM

We used to make this cookie every Christmas with my Mom who is from Switzerland. I lost her receipe and this one worked wonderfully. Now I'm doing them with my kids!... five stars
