A lemon-flavored cutout cookie brushed with egg for a golden color. Very traditional in Switzerland.


  • 1 pound unsweetened butter, softened

  • 1 cup granulated sugar

  • 6 large egg yolks

  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract

  • 5 cups all-purpose flour

  • zest of 2 lemons

  • 1 large egg


  • Preheat oven to 325F. Cream together butter and sugar. Add egg yolks, vanilla, and lemon zest and mix well. Gradually add flour while stirring. Chill. Roll out 1/4″ thick and cut in shapes desired. Beat remaining egg, brush each cookie with beaten egg. Place on parchment-lined baking sheet and bake for 24 minutes or until lightly golden.

Tried the recipe, just to compare with the recipe I have from my family. It's a bit different. Still good, but I like using less ingredients than more...maybe different locals in Switzerland make this recipe vary...still an excellent holiday cookie though!

Another one of my favorites! The dough works better if you don't chill it in between. I found that it worked better.

These cookies are the BOMB!!! I loved them. I was kinda of tired of the traditional sugar cookies and I wanted to do something different. These cookies are perfect with Royal icing. I added a bit more lemon zest...suberb.
