Chow mein noodles make these look just like a twiggy birds nest!

Ingredients

  • 4 cups chow mein noodles

  • 3 cups miniature marshmallows

  • 3 tablespoons butter or margarine

  • small jelly beans

Directions

  • Line a cookie sheet with foil and grease with spray-on cooking oil. Pour noodles into a large bowl. Melt the butter and marshmallows over medium heat, stirring until smooth. Pour marshmallow mixture over noodles, stirring until well coated. Rub some butter on hands and form noodle mixture into six round balls. Place balls on prepared cookie sheet. Alternately, place balls in greased muffin tins (pictured). With the back of a teaspoon, press the center of each ball to make a hollow indentation. Let nests set until they are firm. Fill each with small jelly beans. (Other small candies of your choice may be substituted, such as M & M’s, small gumdrops, chocolate covered raisins, chocolate covered peanuts, etc.)

I've made them ahead of time for Christmas. Should I freeze them or just keep them sealed tight in a cool place?

I like the simplicity of the recipe but next time would mould the "nests" in muffin tins. They really do look like little birds nests!

Great idea and very yummy. Only thing I did different was form into much smaller balls.Very sticky when forming but i put a lil warm water on hands instead of butter and made it much easier to form

I'm no baker and this was perfect for a last minute Christmas cookie party! Made one batch in 30 minutes. I made 24 small nests and put holiday M&M's in them. All this was under $10.00. Call me cheap and lazy but I call it frugal! They were a great hit!
