A butter cookie with the addition of sour cream for flavor and texture.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup butter

  • 3/4 cup sugar

  • 1 large egg yolk

  • 1/3 cup sour cream

  • 1 teaspoon vanilla

  • 2-3/4 cup all-purpose flour, sifted

  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon

  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

  • 1/4 teaspoon baking soda

Directions

  • Preheat oven to 375 F. Beat together butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in egg yolk, sour cream and vanilla. Sift together flour, cinnamon, salt and baking soda. Gradually stir flour mixture into butter mixture. Fill cookie press with dough, then form cookies on ungreased cookie sheets. Can also be made using a pastry bag using a large pastry tip. Bake 10-12 minutes. Remove to wire racks to cool completely.

Notes

  • Original recipe included with the vintage Mirro cookie press. These vintage presses (and their included recipe booklets) are still pretty easy to find on Etsy.com and Ebay.com.

The best cookie press recipe I have ever made. My family ate them as fast as I could get them out of the oven. A little too much cinnamon, so I cut it to 1/2.

These are the best cookie press cookies I have made this year. They come out slightly darker than traditional spritz with the cinnamon but they are still lovely! Be sure you like cinnamon because they are distincly cinnamon!

This in my first year making cookies with a cookies press, and I am having fun! This recipe is quick and easy. I started out with my butter at room temperature, and the only reccomendation I would make is; try your first tray at 350 degrees for 8 minutes. Maybe my oven runs hot but when I followed the directions they would burn. Also, you can add a splash of color with food coloring!

I would not make these cookies again. The dough was thick and hard to press out of the cookie press also the cookies are not very sweet and don't have much taste. I ended up rolling out the dough and using cookie cutters

They were OK but not phenomenal. Easy to do, etc. but I'll look for a better recipe. Flavor could be better.

I'm a big fan of spritz just because you get so many cookies for so little work. Loved these for just that reason. Made a big batch that was easy to press. Taste was better as they sat for a while, with a subtle hint of the sour cream. These are now added to my annual list!
