A copycat recipe to recreate the flavors of the vintage candy.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup butter or margarine

  • 2 cups granulated sugar

  • 2/3 cup evaporated milk

  • 12 large marshmallows

  • dash of salt

  • 1 package (6 ounce) cherry chips*

  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

  • 1 package (12 ounce) semi-sweet chocolate chips

  • 2 cups finely chopped peanuts

  • 3/4 cup creamy peanut butter

Directions

  • Combine butter or margarine, sugar, evaporated milk, marshmallows, and salt in saucepan. Bring to a boil, and boil 5 minutes. Remove from heat and stir in cherry chips and vanilla, stirring until well blended. Pour into a buttered 13 x 9-inch baking pan and chill for 2 hours. Melt chocolate chips and add the chopped peanuts and peanut butter. Stir until well blended. Spread evenly over the top of the first layer. Chill until firm, then cut into bite-size size squares.

  • *Cherry chips are a cherry-flavored “chocolate” chip (although they are not chocolate). They are difficult to find in grocery stores, but can be easily found online.

However, I found them at my local wal mart store. and then i looked them up online and found them for sale on the company's website. the brand is log house. just google log house foods and it will direct you to the site. i looked for cherry chip for 4 years and could never find them so Im so excited that someone has brought them back so recipes like this one can be made right.

I love this recipe by far the best out there. I have the same problem finding cherry chips so i used white choc chips and marchino cherrys chopped plus also added the juice. It still had a cherry taste. If u want more cherry flavor add cherry extract.
