Course: BarsDifficulty: Easy

A cream cheese dough topped with melted chocolate and sliced almonds.

  • 1 (8-ounce) package cream cheese, softened

  • 3/4 cup butter or margarine, softened

  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar

  • 1.5 teaspoon vanilla extract

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour

  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder

  • 1 (6-ounce) package semisweet chocolate chips

  • 1/2 cup sliced or chopped almonds, toasted

  • Pre-heat oven to 375 F. Combine cream cheese and butter in mixing bowl, beat well. Gradually add sugar and vanilla, beating until light and fluffy. Combine flour and baking powder, add to batter, beating well. Pat mixture evenly in an ungreased 9 x 13-inch baking pan. Bake for 15 minutes. Sprinkle chips immediately over baked layer. Let stand 5 minutes, or until chocolate melts. Spread chocolate evenly, to the edge of pan. Sprinkle with almonds. Cool and cut into bars.

I added an egg. I accidentally forgot the vanilla, but will use it next time. My oven took 20 minutes to bake. The final result was wonderful (even tho I forgot the vanilla). I definately will use this recipe again.

After reading the reviews I made a few modifications to the recipe. To keep the cookies from being dry I added ad egg. Problem solved. The bottom held together well. I also relplaced the vanilla extract with almond extract giving the cookie more almond flavor. Yum!
