German cutout cookies flavored with orange, nutmeg and brandy.
Ingredients
1 cup unsalted butter
1 cup granulated sugar
2 large egg yolks
rind of 1/2 orange, grated
1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
1 teaspoon vanilla
2 fluid ounces brandy
3 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
1 large egg white, beaten
decorations (sprinkles, crushed or whole nuts, color sugars, etc.)
Directions
- Beat butter until creamy, gradually adding sugar. Add egg yolks, orange rind, nutmeg, vanilla, and brandy. Mix well. Slowly add flour until mixture becomes a workable dough. Roll out on a floured board (or between two sheets of waxed paper) and cut with cookie cutters, brush with egg white and decorate (sprinkles, nuts, sugar, etc.). Bake at 375F for about 10 minutes or until edges are golden. Allow to cool for one minute on baking sheet, then remove to wire rack to cool completely. Yield depends on how large your cookie cutters are.
