Flavorful, smooth, slightly shiny, very slightly translucent glaze great for decorating cookies or drizzling over other desserts. This does not dry hard and crunchy like Royal Icing…it is more like the glaze on a donut although it doesn’t dry sticky or tacky and you can (gently) stack the cookies. You can make it thicker for piping or thinner for flooding or pouring, depending on your use and preferences. For those who aren’t fans of the taste or texture of Royal Icing, this is a great option.
Ingredients
2-1/2 cups powdered sugar
2 tablespoons water (or a little more)
1 tablespoon butter, softened
1 tablespoon light corn syrup
1/2 teaspoon vanilla or almond extract
food color, if desired
Directions
- Combine powdered sugar, water, 1 tablespoon butter, corn syrup and 1/2 teaspoon vanilla in small mixer bowl; mix until powdered sugar is moistened. Beat at medium speed until smooth, adding additional water if necessary, little by little, until you’ve reached the desired consistency. Tint with food color, if desired. This recipe makes about 1-3/4 cups of icing.
