This recipe makes a LARGE batch of hot chocolate that can be kept hot in a slow cooker. Perfect for holiday parties!

Ingredients

  • For the hot cocoa:
  • 1-1/2 cups granulated sugar

  • 1-1/4 cups cocoa powder

  • 1-1/4 teaspoons salt

  • 3/4 cup hot water

  • 1 gallon milk

  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

  • 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon (optional)

  • Garnishes
  • 25 cinnamon sticks, for garnish (optional)

  • whipped cream, for garnish (optional)

  • mini marshmallows, for garnish (optional)

Directions

  • In large saucepan, combine sugar, cocoa and salt. Add hot water slowly, mixing well. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until mixture boils. Boil and stir 2 minutes. Add milk; heat to serving temperature, stirring occasionally. DO NOT boil. Remove from heat; add vanilla, cinnamon if desired, and whip with a whisk. Serve hot, with whipped cream or marshmallows, if desired. To kick the presentation up a notch, serve with a cinnamon stick in each mug. This recipe can be doubled and kept in crockpot for easier serving to large groups.

I made this last Christmas, during our Santa Claus Parade. It was perfect for when everyone came inside after being out in the cold. It was rich and creamy, and we topping it off with marshmellows and a cinnamon stick!

I made this last Christmas, and everyone loved it. We put real whipped cream on top, but even without it the drink was very good.

I made this for a group of parents and kids for a bonfire party we had after a school trunk or treat event. This was a big hit with the kid.! Very creamy and sweet! Perfect for a fall evening around the campfire. Very easy to make!
