These cookies are an absolute hit with my pet chinchillas. They beg for them whenever i come near them! they are wonderful for wearing down a chinchilla's teeth since they're so hard. (mine were not as compact when i used steel cut oatmeal instead of 'flaked' oatmeal, though) i found it nessicary to put a piece of clingwrap inbetween my measuring device and the mix i was measuring out to prevent it from sticking.

I made these as a going away present for the horses at the barn I was riding lessons at, when I left for the summer. the horses loved them! A few were VERY vocal about wanting more. I wanted to make them extra special for them so I added in shredded apples and carrots too. I ate one and liked it!

They were hard to make. I used an ice cream scoop and made loosely packed mounds; decreased the oven temp to 325 and baked for 15 minutes. This made the dough a little easier to handle and the cookies stick together better.
