This is the recipe circulated in the well-known urban legend. It’s not really Neiman-Marcus’ recipe, but we call it that (in quotation marks) because that’s what it’s usually known as. We won’t perpetuate the myth here, but this recipe for oatmeal chocolate chip cookies really is great. The REAL Neiman-Marcus cookie is here.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup butter

  • 1 cup granulated sugar

  • 1 cup brown sugar

  • 2 large eggs

  • 1-1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour

  • 2 1/2 cups blended oatmeal (blend in a blender to a fine powder)

  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

  • 1 teaspoon baking powder

  • 1 teaspoon baking soda

  • 12 oz. chocolate chips

  • 4 oz. Hershey bar (grated)

  • 1 1/2 cups chopped nuts

Directions

  • Preheat oven to 375 F. Cream the butter and both sugars. Add eggs and vanilla, mix together with flour, oatmeal, salt, baking powder and baking soda. Add chocolate chips, grated hershey bar, and nuts. Roll into balls, and place 2 inches apart on an ungreased cookie sheet. Bake for 10 or 11 minutes.

Freeze your hershey bar for 2-3 hours before you grate it.

Super good cookie! Every bite is worth making it. But I get the hardest time grating the Hershey's bar, it melts in my fingers. How have you been grating your Hershey bars?

This is one of the best cookie recipes I've ever used. My family and friends love them. They are rich and soft and go very quickly around here.

I've made this recipe over and over through the years and it's always a hit. Yes, you have to know that cookies always bake a little bit after they get out of the oven so BE SURE not to overbake. I find 6-10 minutes is plenty of time to cook if you want chewy good cookies. Makes LOTS of cookies for holiday parties. This is one of my staple cookie recipes - would never go back to regular toll house!

I have made this cookie many times and my fiance says it is the best cookie he has ever had. I didnt realize that there were so many other people that have tried this "fake neiman marcus cookie recipe" as I call it. I just tried it one time and this year cuz I am low on money that is what everyone is getting for Christmas. Cookie Baskets.

I made these cookies this morning as an early start to Christmas baking. I was so disappointed, they are dry and much more work than they are worth. They are not the real recipe from Neiman Marcus and shouldn't use the name as it is misleading.
