MomMom's Sugar Cookies

I added a word to the dictionary during the Christmas Holidays--MomMoms Sugar Cookies: dough rolled out thinly on floured surface and cut with assorted Christmas shapes together with fun, laughter and love. Although MomMom has moved to heaven, as I roll and cut the same recipe along with the same cookie cutters, in the same kitchen the tradition started, the memories are etched in my thoughts. Thoughts of love and caring and MomMoms great smile with the bright twinkle of her eyes as she baked the best tasting sugar cookies ever made--in My Book, My Dictionary! Thank you MomMom! Contributed by Maureen Yin.

Makes about 60

3 cups sifted all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
1-1/4 cup granulated sugar
1 cup solid vegetable shortening
3 large eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Sift together flour, baking powder, salt and sugar. Add shortening, mixing witha fork. Add eggs and vanilla, stirring until well incorporated. Chill dough for several hours or overnight. Pre-heat oven to 375 F. Roll out chilled dough thinly on a floured surface. Cut with cookie cutters and bake on ungreased cookie sheet for about 8 minutes or until lightly golden in color.

Would make this again.
Dede used baking soda instead of baking powerd. Very common mistake for people not paying attention. That is the only thing (if followed properly) that can effect the taste of the cookies poorly. five stars

These cookies were inedible. They had the worst taste, that I couldnt get out of my mouth. I copied the recipe exactly, I made one batch and threw the rest of the dough out. AWFUL!!! one star

great cookies... reminded me of my mommom too.

how much you wanna bet "william in georgia" and "a cookie baker in US" are the same person? because the two being posted the same day doesn't give any clues. Especially when they both use the word "floury", which isn't even a real word. four stars

These truely have to be the best cookies I have ever made. To ice them I use a powdered sugar glaze which works great. Just make sure to not use to much flour when rolling out the dough, or else the cookies will come out dry and cakey. five stars
