I still have my mom’s original BH&G Homemade Cookies Cook Book. She starting making these when I was little and I’ve continued the tradition for decades! I have some in the kitchen now! They are my favorite Christmas bar!

Been making these for over 40 years. A family tradition! You need to remove large sections from Pyrex dish immediately with spatula. Place sections on wax paper dusted with powdered sugar. Then cut into squares. Store covered.

I have been making these cookies since I bought a Fanny Farmer cookbook many years ago. Christmas would not be the same if Chewy Noels were not on the cookie try.

I have been making this recipe since it was a page to tear out of the Better Homes and Gardens Magazine. I put into my cookbook of the same name given to me as a wedding present in 1968. I have used the recipe every Christmas since I got it and my family asks for them every year. I have never put the green \"noel\" on them so I could stack them and because it gave me time to make more. I have used English walnuts every time. I spray the pans with non-stick oil and line them with parchment paper on the bottoms and long sides and spray again. I have made the mistake of over-baking which is easy to do since they are ready before they look ready. After baking, I cool and chill the pan(s) of cookies before the second dusting of sugar. Then I turn the whole pan onto a wooden cutting board and dust the other side and sometimes sprinkle them additionally with colored sugar. With an electric knife (bought only for this purpose)I slice off the edges very thinly before cutting them into bite-sized pieces. I keep the trimmings and broken pieces for nibbling. Not only do I use this Better Homes and Gardens recipe but I use many others as well. This has been the best and most popular of them all. At other times of the year I call them walnut chewies and I have made this recipe possibly a hundred times if you count doubling it.

These cookie bars are delicious, but I agree with Sara. They stuck to the pan and I had to pry them out with a spatula. They were crumbly and fell apart. I used unsalted butter and an aluminum pan. Don't know if that contributed to the result. This recipe is in my Fannie Farmer cookbook.

Made them again last night. Everyone loved them. They never stick so I don't know what happened to Sara??? It is a Christmas must in my family...but anytime is great. This is an easy one for the men that wish to impress the family.
