Butterscotch Brownies

Makes about 24

6 tablespoons shortening
1-1/2 cup brown sugar
2 eggs
1-1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon vanilla
1-1/2 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 cup chopped walnuts or pecans
1 cup butterscotch morsels

Preheat oven to 350F. Cream shortening and sugar, add the rest in given order. Grease a 9" x 13" baking pan. Pour batter into pan, and bake 25 minutes. Cool for 10 minutes and then cut into squares.

Would not make this again.
I think there is an ingredient missing in this recipe, something liquid. The directions say to "pour" batter into pan. The "batter" was barely moist from the eggs and vanilla, and I molded it into the pan. It did not rise and get thick and it was dry and crumbly, and hard to cut out of the pan. I think it would have been good if all the ingredients were included. one star

for the person who said they will not make these because they have no butter.... they are called BUTTERSCOTCH not BUTTER this recipe sounds great I plan to make it tomorrow and if it bothers you that much such substitue 6tbsp of butter for the shortening five stars
