Toffee Squares

1 cup butter
2 cups flour
1 tsp vanilla
1 cup firmly packed brown sugar
1 egg yolk
8 oz semi-sweet chocolate morsels
1/2 cup finely chopped walnuts or pistachios

Preheat oven to 350F. Use a food processor or mixer to combine butter, flour, vanilla, brown sugar and egg yolk. Press into an ungreased 10x15-inch pan. Bake 15 minutes. Remove from the oven; sprinkle with chips. Let stand several minutes to melt the chocolate; spread chocolate evenly over the surface. Sprinkle with nuts. Cover with a piece of waxed paper; press gently to make nuts adhere. Score into bars while still warm; chill to harden chocolate.

This recipe reminds me of my Grandmother's Toffee Bars! They are amazingly delicious, and they DO go fast! Perfect for adding to my platters I give away each year, and many people ask for the recipe once they've tasted them. Have fun with it! five stars

I have been making these for years. By far, the easiest and tastiest bar recipe out there. I usually put the whole egg in instead of just the yolk, and for the chocolate on top I melt chocolate chips with some butterscotch chips as well. This adds to the overall "Toffee" flavor. five stars

What is not to like? These disappear quickly. Be sure to cut while still warm or they are too hard to cut. I use a pizza cutter and cut into diamond shapes. five stars

I make this every year, but I use hershey's chocolate bars instead of chocolate chips. Break them up in the little squares and spread as they melt. This is a great recipe and easy to do. five stars
