1/2 cup margarine
1/2 cup brown sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla
1-1/2 cups flour
1/8 teaspoon salt
20 to 25 maraschino cherries
2 tablespoons juice from maraschino cherries (optional)
20 to 25 chocolate chips , plus 1 cup chocolate chips
Preheat oven to 350° F. Cream sugar and margarine well. Add vanilla, flour and salt. Mix well. If the dough seems dry, add up to 2 tablespoons of the maraschino cherry juice. Stuff each cherry with a chocolate chip, then wrap in 1 teaspoon dough. Bake on ungreased cookie sheet for 12 to 15 minutes. Cool. Melt 1 cup chocolate chips in the top of a double boiler over low heat or in the microwave, and dip top of cookies in melted chocolate.

This was a fantastic recipe! They were a huge hit with family and coworkers. I used dark chocolate chips inside the cherry and milk chocolate as the dip. The dough was a bit dry but I used 3 or 4 tablespoons of cherry juice and it shaped right up. Next time, I'm going to try doubling the recipe because there were just too few of them. They were gone in a matter of days!

If you like cherries, you'll like this one. I tried it with cherry kisses, but DO NOT recommend. The cherry cordial syrup leaks out. Much better to take the time to stuff the cherries with a chocolate chip then to take a short cut. My husband says it's a keeper for a Christmas cookie.

These are always a huge hit around the holidays! The dough is often too dry, but a little water brings it together again. Drying the cherries off with a paper towel helps before stuffing and wrapping them. I have also in the past dried the cherries and then soaked them overnight in brandy. That was delicious, but they are great as they are, too!

The dough was crumbly, but added a few drops of cherry juice (added nice color) and the consistency was enough to roll in a ball, flatten then wrap around cherry! Yummy too.

I love this recipe! I began making these delicious bon-bons a few years ago, and now have my daughter, sister, and several co-workers begging for the recipe.
Only problem I've had is sometimes the dough is a bit dry, which makes wrapping the cherries a bit difficult. If this happens, a few drops of water works fine.

These are so easy to make and delicious. I made a batch for my father-in-law, who absolutely loves cookies, and he ate almost a dozen in 1 night!

I tried this recipe and found it to be a GREAT taste for the holidays. I also tried it adding 1 tbsp cocoa and 1 tbsp white sugar which turned out very good as well. (I saw many had issues working with the dough, so thought I would offer up a suggestion that worked very well for me. Take the dough between waxed paper and roll it out. Then use a shotglass or small glass to cut out circles of the dough, place one circle on the base, add the cherry, then add another circle of dough to the top. Seal the cookie by spreading a bit of milk on the sides...this helps hold the cherry in place. Absolutely Delicious!!! Hope this helps you all enjoy this treat that much more!!!
