I havent made them yet but the best recipes appear to roll the dough into a ball & if it's runny it probably needs more flour

My recipe is just a little different and might be easier to do. 1 stick melted butter, 1 cup sugar, 3 eggs, anise and vanilla to taste( I use 3 teaspoons all together), 2 1/4 cups AP flower.

Chocolate version use chocolate bits melted into the butter, w an additional 14 cup flower (use 2 tsp vanilla and 1 of orange extract) yummy!!!!!

Would not make this again.
I experienced the same problem as CO 12/08 reported. Batther would squirt out the sides of the machine and the pizzelles were holey, not lacey. The pizzelle is very tasty, however appears as a complete disaster. I have made pizzelle's for the past 4 years and never had a problem...disappointing. 5 stars
